My son Jake is autistic. Unfortunately, he is unable to comprehend danger and safety. Walking our dogs is something that we love to do together, but after a close call walking Joey, my wire haired fox terrier, I lost confidence that Jake would always hold on to the leash.
Jake has always loved two things – being outdoors and taking our dogs out for long walks. Since I could no longer rely on him to hold on to Joey’s leash, I needed to come up with a way for Jake to safely walk the dog.
My goal was to develop a training leash that he could use successfully while ultimately keeping my beloved dog out of harm’s way.
I began to think that other people might have a similar situation as I have: needing a leash that was designed for two people. Additionally, I realized this leash could be a perfect fit for people who were looking for a secure and fun way to teach someone how to walk a dog.
